Poultry madness!

What a valentine's day disaster... My husband decided that I should relax on valentine's day, yesterday and that he would cook for us. He went to Shoprite - Melody Walk in Town Centre, Mitchell's Plain to buy a few groceries for lunch. He decided to leave early to try and get done early and be back to finish lunch. Upon returning home he started with the cooking and when he opened the 2x foam plates of chicken, it smelt horrible like it was off. I immediately lit an insense stick and asked my husband to clean the chicken and maybe let it lay in vinegar for this awful smell and try to salvage what we could, as we used our last money for those groceries to have a special lunch, not just for valentine's day, but also because it was my birthday, the day before. Well, the lunch never worked out, because even though my husband braai'd the chicken, it still smelled awful and the taste was bad. We decided to give all the chicken to the dogs. I have been shopping at Shoprite - Melody Walk for over 20 years and never had any problem with their products. I just feel that they do lack in certain departments, whereby services are not up to standard and certain checks are being overlooked or by passed. Like the sell by date on the chicken bought was 14/03/2021, but the chicken was off for days. Could the chicken have been re-wrapped with the later date put on it? Or was the chicken packs not refrigerated at the proper temperature? Was it even refrigerated? I think overlooking certain checks will put customers at risk for illnesses. I would like to appeal to Shoprite - Melody Walk to designate someone to do proper checks of their poultry and refrigeration departments. Things could have been worse, but I am glad my baby and I are safe, as I am 8 months pregnant and my family and I did not fall ill after consuming some of the chicken.
