Overcharge

On 1 October 2024 I went to do grocery shopping at Shoprite in Town Centre Mitchell’s Plain. I had 37 items and my total was about R1100 with a few cents, after using my Xtra saving card it came down to R889 with few cents. I had a R700 voucher and told the cashier I’ll be using it and pay the difference of R189 with my bank card. To my surprise the cashier told me I needed to pay R307.21, I asked her how is this possible as I had paid R700 already she just kept saying that was the required amount. I asked her to check if there were no duplicate items it if the xtra savings were app**** and she said she could not do that without processing the transaction first. I paid the R307.21, got my slip and all the Xtra saving discounts were not not app**** even though it showed my card as swiped. She told me to go to Kiosk to be assisted, I was told I had to scan all the items again and I was assisted by Deidre who is the admin manager and Shaeeda, they were both *********** as they had no clue what had happened or provided any solution. They scanned all the item, I now had 39 items total was again R1100 with some cents and R893.69 after using the Xtra savings card. No refund of the difference was offered, I was told that I am differently as I had used a voucher and if wanted a refund, I would only get the R307.21 I paid but I would not get the R700 voucher as it was not cash or card payment. All I wanted was the a refund of the overcharge. I spent an hour at the store with no assistance, instead I was made to look like a fool for inquiring about an overcharge. This was the most pathetic service I’ve ever experienced at Shoprite, both Deidre and Shaeeda could not explain why I paid the R307.21 yet they could no provide a solution to resolve my query.
