old or "on special" shelf talkers

<p>Yesterday, 09/08/2016 at 9 in the morning, I went to Shoprite (shop and liquor store) in the Fingoland Mall in Butterworth.</p> <p> <br />The shelf talker showed the Russian Bear 750ml vodka as R85 (84.95 or 84.99 but it's pointless using these amounts because one never gets any change – so 85 it is). I took two bottles and when I got to the check out, I asked the cashier to first check the price – I have been down this road before with “on special” Capt Morgan. Sure enough R95 – normal price.</p> <p> <br />This is dishonest. It is not so bad if one takes one or maybe two items. What if it's a trolley load? How much more is one going to pay – R200, R300; who knows?</p> <p> <br />If a special runs from Monday to Thursday and one gets to the store on Friday when the price is the normal one, it is ********* / false advertising to display the “special” shelf talkers. With Pick 'n' Pay it's “the price you see is the price you pay” and they give you the difference in cash (whether this is still true I cannot say as it happened to me a few years ago). Most other stores tell one straight in one's face to pay the cash register's price or get out of the shop.</p> <p><br />This practice is not exactly *****ing but one may never have purchases the items had one known the truth. What is one to do? Ask the cashier to first check each and every item?</p> <p> </p> <p>In my experience this is not limited to Shoprite and/or small towns.</p>
