Locking staff

i went to shoprite one Saturday morning while waiting in the line to be served i got a shock of my like, staff are locked in the tiny room where customers leave their parcel. they are locked in by the security guards and they take the keys with them.what policy is this please treating them like animals or *******. please see to this matter
