I am an aggrieved customer, writing to inform Shoprite management of the harrowing and, in no uncertain terms, abhorrent and distasteful service I received at Shoprite Jewel City in City & Suburban, Johannesburg, on Tuesday, 18 March 2024. Naturally, this has left me at my wits end, raising questions about the training — or lack thereof — that cashiers undergo to ensure the highest customer service standards which form the backbone of a reputable retail giant. In a particularly deplorable demonstration of the lows customers who walk into store 8574 can expect, a cashier, Thulisile Ngwane, displayed disdain and utter disregard by aggressively handing me back my change, making for an unpleasant point-of sale interaction that devolved into a spectacular outburst from me, given the inconvenience caused to my person.
