Harassed and embarrassed

I was at Mayfield Square yesterday, doing my weekly grocery. I always buy at PnP and Shoprite. Mode of payment has always been my husband's debit card. The card bears his name but I sign on it. I bought at PnP, the cashier there saw the card was in my husband's name. No questions were asked. I then went to Shoprite to complete my shopping. I am at the till. The bill comes up to R600. I had asked for airtime and she did not input it. I give her the bank card so as to pay. She looks at me then the card and asks who the card owner is. I responded that it was my husband's card. She asked where he was and I told her in the parking lot in his vehicle. She tells me I cannot make payment because the owner is not there he needs to come in to make the payment. I ask what the reason was. No reason was given. She shouts to somebody else to come and call the manager because somebody is trying to make payment with a card that is not theirs. I ask her if she was implying that I was a ***** who had ****** it. No discretion was used as the other customers in various queues where watching a drama unfold as '*****' is caught using a ****** card. I called my husband to come in to do the transaction. The manager was useless as well she just says I have been recently promoted and I have been trained differently. What the heck I do not give a care that you have been promoted and you have been trained in whatever nonsense but you have dismally failed to decipate the situation and calm a clearly livid customer. I asked my husband to bring in any form of identification in case she refuses him to make payment. After all the drama for nothing I am the one who completes the transaction and I am not even afforded an apology or an explanation. I am livid. Mayfield used to be good when it opened but now the whole thing has gone to the dogs. You have managers who fail to execute their duties who give flimsy excuses for doing so. Sorry but I know lots of women who transact with their husbands bank cards due to various and are not willing to be caught with cash on them during this festive season. Seriously!!!!! I am still angry at this sort of treatment. Please teach your staff that common courtesy and discretion is an element in customer.
