Expired patties

My son and nephews asked that I make them chicken burgers today . I went to shoprite Centurion mall to buy their in house crumbed chicken patties. Got home and prepared the food and we started eating, my son said the patties tasted funny. I then tasted mine , it tasted off and smelled bad. I made it with an airfryer abs didn't smell anything. My kids could have gotten food poisoning and I had to get buy something else to eat as it is late
