Damage kettle

Hi my name is thulisile hlongwane i bought a kettle at shoprite chrishani last year October 12 but wen i go ther for the exchange coz now the kettle is linking they jst told me is my fault but i dont understand how coz i know it has to be 1 year guaranty plz assist me with this issue
