Cashback withdrawal shortage

On Wednesday the 4th of October 2023 around 5pm I purchased refill water at Shoprite Bougainville Shopping Centre, 638 Redelinghuys St, Da****rt, Pretoria, 0082 in Pretoria and requested cashback. The till I was serviced at didn't have the money then I was referred to the next till. I requested a R1000. The cashier took out the money and placed it on the till top to count though said she noticed a torn note at that moment I then requested her to give some of the money in R50s to distribute to the owners. I then took the money without counting it and went back to the till I purchased water from, to get the lunch bag that I left on the till. I placed the money inside the bag without counting it and left the store, and drove home.

The following day 05/10/2023, when I had to distribute the money I realised that the money was less/short with R500, and it did not have even the R50s as requested from the cashier. I then went back to Shoprite Da****rt to ask for clarity. The manager told me that there were no overflows reported the previous day (04/10/2023) end of business. I then requested to see the footage and the Security took the till slip and went to check the footage. On his return, he told me that the camera saw me from behind and did not see on the till and the opposite camera in the front view was very far. The other lady (employee) came and informed me that the cashier who served me on the 4th (Kelebogile) reported an overflow of R300 to her and because she reported it I should understand that she was not *****ing it. She offered me the R300 and I rejected the R300 because my shortage was for R500. The same senior informed me that there was also R500 overflow that was reported but it was not from the same cashier. As this was discussed the alleged cashier was there and none of the management including security went to her for clarity let alone call her to the office and attend to the customer query. I left the store angry and frustrated without help.

On 6/10/2023, I went back because my conscience was in doubt and then insisted on viewing the camera. The senior lady in charge denied me access and requested the bank card that was used to investigate and view the footage. She asked me to narrate the events. As was starting to relay the events, the same senior lady who informed me of the R300 overflow from Kelebogile came and interrupted us, claiming that she helped me the previous day though I immediately objected and continued the narration. After that then the lady that took my card went to view the footage.

On her return, she informed me that the money was counted by the cashier and handed to me and I also counted it whilst on the till. I told her talk she was not telling the truth. She then asked another lady to go view the same footage, on the return, the lady told me that I took the money from the cashier and went back to the previous till where I purchased water from and stood by that till and recounted before placing it on the bag. I still objected on the basis that I knew that I didn’t count the money. I told her that R1000 is a small amount that I can get confused about. Secondly, had I counted the money I would have immediately noticed that the money is short/less and could have also requested the R50's again because I had a purpose for requesting them.

I then asked them to call the cashier (Kelebogile) in the office but I was informed that she was off duty. The senior lady took my contact and promised to investigate and contact me with the findings. I told her that I was adamant that they were covering for the cashier and for the fact that all four (4) of them viewed the same footage but presented different versions of it. I asked her about the proper complaints protocol and she then informed me I could go and request a subpoena from the police for them to come to view the footage on my behalf and not open a case. On 10/10 2023 I went back to the store again requesting a receipt/till slip that the security took from me but the receipt could not be found. I then requested a copy of the reprinted receipt of the Cash withdrawal. To date, no one from Shoprite Da****rt has contacted me regarding the outcome of the investigation as promised on the 6th of October 2023
