Faulty pump Calibration

Stopped at Shell to fill up, my car tank is 45L. When i stopped the car was just under the quarter mark. They filled up with a total of just over 50L so if the car had worse case 5L in how is it possible that you can over fill the car with an extra 10 - 15L I am sure there pumps calibration is out. Will never stop at a shell again
