Customs fees half the value of the package?

I have purchased an international order from Shein. The customs charges which have now been app**** is half the value of the full package. How are these fees calculated? All the complaints on the websites are robots which cannot assist you. How do I find out the calculation for the customs duties that varies so much from package to package.
