Think twice before signing up with Shea Academy

THIS IS A WARNING TO ANYONE WANTING TO REGISTER WITH SHAW ACADEMY: BE VERY CAREFUL.

I saw an ad on Instagram for Shaw Academy, on Saturday 9 May 2020, in the ad it was advertised that they are giving away a 4 week free trial for their online courses. I became interested and then went to the website. I was interested in the Beauty Diploma. I found that the trial is only for one module and not for the entire course. The course itself is 14 weeks long so you will end up having to pay to complete the course, with the subscription being R399/MONTH.On the website, you have to enter your credit card or banking details before you can register for the trial. Once I completed the sign up process, there came a pop- up which tells you, you need to pay R399 for the module toolkit and another R399 for the e-certificate. I started lessons but lost connectivity during the lesson. I tried to rewatch but couldn't access it. I tried cancelling on their website but was informed that I need to call their call center in order to proceed with the cancellation. on Monday 11 May 2020 I called the call center, spoke with Lauren, who advised that she will unlock the toolkit and e-certificate. She sent me an email confirming this but on going to the website I still couldn't access the toolkit. I rep**** to her email and informed her of this and received no reply. On Tuesday 12 May 2020, whilst on the website I clicked on the obtain toolkit button in error, meaning that I was charged R399 for the toolkit. On the same day, I called Shaw academy again to try and reverse the charges and inform them regarding my previous email to Lauren. This time I spoke with Denver who informed me that he will get Lauren to call me back and assist with the refund. I didn't receive any callback. After about 2 hours I called again and spoke with Kristin, I informed her that I want to cancel and get a refund for the toolkit, she advised that she will send an email to the billing department and that I should also sent one to facilitate a speedier reply. She informed me that my cancellation was confirmed. I have received response from the billing/ finance department stating that they cannot refund me as once the toolkit has been unlocked you have access to it. They did say they are willing to give me 2 months free access and $199 worth of material.I also have an email confirming my cancellation. I have come to accept that I have lost my R399 for the toolkit but I am disappointed in the way that Shaw Academy runs their business. I am no longer interested in anything that has to do this company as they have ***** business ethic. It feels like it is a **** to get people to sign up, get their card details and then make it difficult to cancel with them. The whole point of my story is please be careful when you see an ad, or win a voucher saying you've won free access to a course on Shaw Academy.Please, please be careful
