They'll train you but they'll also indiscriminately take your hard-earned cash

I signed up with Shaw some years back and was pleased with the outcome of the few courses which I took. So when they offered me a free course during lockdown, I happily accepted it. This despite my friends warning of how they unashamedly debit your account. Free services during some of our worst economic times - what could be better right? Am I ever sorry! I inadvertently clicked on something they had on their website and within seconds R499.00 disappeared from my account. I saw the notification almost instantaneously from my banking app and quickly contacted them on the platform requesting a refund. Despite several emails to-ing and fro-ing the answer was always the same - you clicked on it and as such accepted the terms and conditions which means you will not be receiving a refund. I reached out to them on twitter. Their reply "As I observe, our executive has responded to you over the email" and that was the end of that. Then I researched some senior staff email addresses and forwarded all the correspondence to them, requesting some intervention. Once again... Nothing!! I then attempted to cancel my account on their website. You have to go through 7 steps confirming that you are cancelling only to arrive at a phone number that you have to call. 7 steps later again and after a call of 3min57secs, I was disconnected. All automated messages of "press 2 now" and at the end disconnected with further ado and no human on the other end. I am within my rights of a cooling down period, I took action within minutes. So this was no "impulse buy". It seems that with Shaw Academy there is no Consumer Right to Fair and Honest Dealings. Very, very sour taste in my mouth. Won't ever touch them again and haven't started discouraging others from making use of their services.
