False advertising - they will not allow you to "cancel anytime", and they don't tell you how much they will charge you after the month free trial...

Got to give it to online companies taking advantage of a global pandemic....Disclaimer: this review has nothing to do with the value of their courses, as I didn't have the down time to take advantage of the month free offer that got me in the door. This review is about advertising/business practices and customer service.

I thought Shaw Academy was fami**** and vaguely remember seeing an adverti*****t on social media and signing up for a free month trial on March 23rd 2020. I got a $0.50 debit multiple times through PayPal, yet I don't have any "welcome to Shaw Academy" emails from them, neither did I receive any further communications from them about the course that must have attracted me in the first place. I'm guessing that's how they role - offer a free month on social media and then hope people don't remember or know how to cancel in time to not be charged. Due to everything else going on, I didn't find out till today that they automatically enrolled me in their "Premium" plan and charged me $69.99 on April 20th through auto pay on PayPal.

They say you can "Cancel ANYTIME" but apparently they will not allow you to cancel on weekends; they require you to CALL THEM during their business hours Monday - Friday.

After I clicked through page after page confirming that YES I really want to cancel, NO I don't want to enroll in another course, and NO I don't want to change my subscription to the $34/month option, the final page says "To confirm your cancellation you are required to call the number for your specific country below" they require me to call them during their business hours 11AM - 8PM Eastern time Monday - Friday and they give you a "student ID" number you have to provide when you call. Since I really cannot "cancel anytime" as they advertise, I cancelled the autopay through PayPal today, and will try to call them during the week.

But I should have done my research beforehand. Big lesson for everyone in any situation: DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR A FREE TRIAL OF ANYTHING. Profiteers be profiteering.
