NON COMPLIANT SECURITY SERVICE AT HOSPITAL
Dear Weldon,
Thank you for taking my call this morning.
As discussed during our call and referring to my statement attached, I am concerned on the risk management in place at the facility.
1. The incident indicated that the duty supervisor required some more training on handling incidents at the hospital involving members of the public, as she was a bit off guard to handle the matter at first. With some comfort that I am on her side she managed to calm down and assist with review of footage, that led to get the suspect vehicles registration.
2. However it appeared that no immediate reaction/assistance was received from the next level of supervision or management, and I had to make use of my network in the industry to get reaction and outside involvement. One would assume that a company of the perceived standards of Servest would be able to have same similar connections and networking. The SOP or immediate action drills appeared to be lacking by the duty crew on the night of the event.
3. Even though the patrol members were observant on the incident at hand, it was rather alarming that the team were not ready for assistance in the pouring rain, as none were dressed in rain suits or equipped with umbrellas. Secondly upon my raising the complaint on what happened to my vehicle, the one member had confirmed he saw me struggling closing my driver side door, no attempt was made to stop me and assist or investigate, since their was evidence of suspects committing a crime in the close vicinity of my vehicle. At no point was I contacted by the facility security manager on the incident and in my first interaction with Wellington, my opinion was not of a very competent manager at the facility. Be it as it may, again after interaction that actually I am there to assist and not fight, we came to an amicable agreement. To be noted, after the incident it was this morning the first time I observed Wellington at the service entrance monitoring the area, as it is one of the risk areas.
4. Further concern that the members acknowledged that the had observed the said white Polo with possible suspects as their had been alerts put out of same similar vehicle operating in the area, and no pro-active actions were taken. Again I raise the matter of the inclement weather and the members not equipped to be in the rain, secondly that no visual patrols were observed in reviewing the footage, just two members static at the main entrance.
5. The review of the CCTV footage also in my opinion raised a concern that some of the cameras positioning serves no real purpose, plus some have very poor quality pictures. Lack of maintenance and perhaps lack of no proper security risk analyses or regular security measure audits done.
6. Of major concern is the fact that on the evening of the incident, the staff exit boom had been in the upright position and no barrier in the form of a traffic cone was placed. Again lack of measures can be linked to the inclement weather conditions, as large lack in pro-active measures especially in inclement weather. I place on record that these boom gates are constantly failing and be found at any given time day or night in the upright position. This serious concern is based on the fact that in the event of my vehicle or the other in question would have been ******, driving out the parking area would have posed no deterant what so ever to the *********. Making the parameter protection of the facility very vulnerable to patrons to the facility. Basic principles of securing a facility failed dismally.
As a suggestion, also tabled with the General Manager of the hospital , an independent consultant should be contracted to do firstly an audit on the current status of the measures in place at the hospital. Then compare the measure with the SLA(sure hope there is one in place), then a risk audit with recommendations.
The above as a service provider would make business sense and show pro-active actions in mitigating the risk at the said facility. Lack there off, in my humble opinion creates a bad clot on the services of a company like Servest.
I then place the following on record:
1. I would like to hear from Servest based on the above failure to secure the facility, that led to damage to my vehicle, what form of compensation are going to on the table, seeing that the damage suffered on my vehicle was a direct result of failure on service delivery by Servest.
2. I am offering my services as an independent to assist in the suggestion of an audit and risk assessment at a fee that can be discussed, should my offer be considered. This will be facilitated by one of my associates.
Hoping to get feedback at the soonest to direct my course of action.
