SERENDIPITY HOME FOR THE AGED

WHAT A LET DOWN. I had an interview at the Serendipity old age home in Panorama about 2 weeks ago. Neither the owner, Mrs Sharon Roberts or her daughter, Chelsea, was present at the time. A care giver chatted to me and showed me around the place. When the co-owner, Chelsea, arrived I thought the interview was about to start when I was politely informed that I got the post as a professional nurse and that I can start working on the 2nd of March 2020. I was happy as I had been unemployed for 7 months. This was something I have always wanted to do. Care for the frail and aged. On Sunday, the 1st of March I made a courtesy call to Serendipity to 'hi'and to say that I will be seeing them in the morning. I was then politely told by a caregiver that there was no need to report to work. This morning I phoned Serendipity Old Age Home and spoke to the co-owner Chelsea, who informed me that they had employed someone else. I asked for the reason as I was told that I was starting on the 2nd. It was a verbal agreement and at the time I thanked her for the opportunity. To me it was done deal... little did I know! Her response was that they tried to phone me (Sorry, no missed calls as I would have phoned back) and that they had sent me e-mails (sorry, no e-mails received as I would have responded). When I told Chelsea that I never received any calls or e-mails her response was that the e-mails were sent.... they were in the sent box. I WAS GOB-SMACKED! Chelsea politely told me there was nothing I could do because I had not yet signed a contract..... it was only a verbal agreement! I have incurred expenses. Bought nursing shoes and uniforms suitable for the position. All that money spent and NO JOB. HOW LOW CAN SOMEONE GO!
