DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SELLDIRECT

I took delivery of a tablet on 22 January. When I received my simcard activation, I was told it would take 72 hours to be activated. I duly inserted my simcard without any effort. I in fact had unknowingly inserted it the wrong way round. 72 hours later, not being able to use my tablet, I tried calling SellDirect. I am not always near a landline, nor am I able to make calls during the day. I tried calling them on my return home. They were closed, I tried caling them on the Saturday morning. They were closed. I therefore went directly to Telkom with the problem, who confirmed that the simcard had been inserted incorrectly and they duly sent it off to a "repairer" for the matter to be rectified. This was on 29 January - a week later. I am now told that my tablet is out of warranty. I have to pay R400 to have a brand new tablet repaired. I managed to get hold of Selldirect after that. I was then told my phone has a one year warranty. The repairer then stated that a simcard port is not covered by the warranty. This was then confirmed by Selldirect in a subsequent call. Nobody knows what they are doing. The fact that they had sent me a dud tablet has nothing to do with it. I have worked with simcards many times over the years. Inserting a simcard should not cause damage. I want this brand new, unused but DAMAGED tablet replaced. This they do not appear to want to do - I must pay for repairs on a week old tablet! I lost my temper with them and insisted that a manager call me. This is yet to happen. I have not as yet received my first account - an account for a tablet that I don't have and if I did, I cannot use. Why should I have to pay for a tablet repair within a week of having received it. I am taking legal opinion on this matter.

Thank you for advising us of your query.

We have looked into your matter and have assigned one of our resolution agents to your case.
Please note that when you incorrectly inserted the sim card into the sim slot, you caused physical damage to the unit which voided the warranty. The physical damage is not covered by warranty and you were consequently billed for the repair.

You can expect a call back during the course of the day to explain further and talk through your options.

Kind Regards,
SDM Team

The simcard went into the tablet without any resistance. I did not damage the phone. You cannot tell me that others have also not inserted the simcard incorrectly. Why then don't you have a number of complaints about the same thing on Hello Peter? I am sorry but your explanation is not acceptable. Why did Randall tell me that the phone was under warranty even when I explained what the problem was?

A phone that breaks within days of taking delivery of it - and without using brute force - there is something wrong with the product!

I'm still waiting to hear the handling fee. In the meantime my tablet isn't being repaired and I'm being billed for a damaged item that hasn't been used. Why do you treat your clients with such contempt?

Good Day,

please note that because you did the repair with the store, you have to return to the branch to confirm the handling fee and they should be able to confirm when you can expect the unit's return.
