Gym lying about contract - cant produce copy

I joined Sebokeng Gym January 2014 on a 12-months contract for R199 per month. In November, with 1 month to the end of my contract, I contacted the gym to request a copy of my contract with them, the gym couldn't not provide this. By law, the gym must keep record of finacial and contractual transactions for 5 years, atleast. So, I cancelled the debit order in cancellation of my membership with a month left.<br> <br> As expected, Sebokeng gym started contacting me about non-payments and I kept requesting my contract. Their office promised to fax/email it to me but I have not gotten it to date.<br> <br> They handed me to their attorneys who say I owe +-R3500. How does R199 (December non-payment, last month of the contract) grow to +-R3500 in a space of 6 months? And yet no one can produce proof of agreement. Even the attorneys can't produce proof and they always shout at me everytime they call me.<br> <br> I am going to take Sebokeng Gym to the DTI over their poor handling of my matter and lying about contract agreement.<br> <br> And I'm taking the legal company to the Ombudsman for failure to produce evidence (contract) of what I'm being accused of.
