METRORAIL CRISIS

As an Employer of a small business in the South Suburbs, staff are severely adversely impacted by unsafe and undependable Metrorail service from Retreat to Fish Hoek. We have documented the regular breadown and cancellation of trains and lengthly delays in arrival of trains since August 2013. No courtesy of response or Managment assurances to our constructive feedback. “The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry has just completed a survey with businesses in the city‚ investigating the effects of the commute to work and home. This was made public September 2017. It has emerged that Metrorail’s continuous delays affect the "mental health and morale" of 94% of employees who use the train service. Thousands of people rely on it to get to work‚ but it has been plagued with problems‚ including vandalism and cable theft.” Much of the communication from Prasa and Metrorail has been inaccurate as to the root of the problem. One little motor accident at the booms at False Bay Station does not knock out the signal system for the entire Cape Metropol. Eventually Mrs Riana Scott, summed up one of the root issues as follows: Scott said it was "aged and obsolete infrastructure". For example , in the period of Train electrical Pylon broken down from the 6 October 2016 to 20 October 2016 between St. James and Kalk Bay. Metrorail appeared unable to source a replacement pole…! There is a crisis of Management . There also appears to a dirth of Engineering and basic technical s****s to pre empt and contingency plans to handle basic breakdowns of infrastructure and signal capability.No early warnings of train cancellations or delays.Unfortunately , constructive feedback of how commuters feel, is not welcomed or it appears taken seriously. My correspondence from 15 August 2013 to present day goes without acknowledgment or reply.We do this on the basis of an earnest desire for the restoration of world class national transport system. This especially with the approach of the tourist season and the safety and convenience of local and overseas visitors to our beautiful Western Cape and country as a whole
