No email reminder to end trial! Scribd

In June I subrscribed to Scribd - an ebook and articles etc online platform. I opted for the trial and It stated that prior to the 30 days trial ending an email would be sent! I check emails everyday and unfortunately I had forgotten to unsubscribe after the trial period. Not one email was sent! Since the day that I opted in I haven’t gone back for any other book etc but an amount was deducted! Is that how things are run these days? We are fed lies and in the end are made to pay for things that we never used?!
