Taken for a ride!!

I joined this company in 2013 and paid my dues regularly. In 2015, around November, I had an issue with a service provider. I bought a manual gearbox kit for my Audi A6 and this person had to do the conversion which he promised to do within 7days. It did not happen although the vehicle was with him from May 2014. In November 2015, I contacted Scorpion to request assistance to get my expenses recovered and was informed that I have to get the vehicle completely repaired and then furnish them with all the invoices. They informed me that they will claim all my losses in one go. As this guy stole a lot of the spares, we had to re-purchase a lot of spares. The last spares was bought in December 2016 and the documentation was now sent to Scorpion. Now suddenly, the case cannot be handled by them as I should have lodged a complaint around June 2014, after the seven days that that guy promised to have the vehicle repaired. I feel that they paved the way for rejection of my request in November 2015. Now they refuse to assist me. I am trying to get them to re-consider but they give me no feedback and I know why. They are waiting for month-end so they can say my subscription was not paid and therefor they are unable to take the case.

Dear Pieter,

Thank you for bringing this complaint to our attention.

We have made two attempts to discuss this matter in detail with you, but on both occasions you disconnected our calls, refusing to listen to our staff.

In this regard we would like to advise as follows:

 1. Your policy became active in November 2014 only, and not in 2013 as you allege.
 2. Our records indicate that you only reported this matter to us in February 2017.
 3. Your matter is not covered since the problem arose in May 2014. This is 6 months before you were an active member. Our policy excludes matters that happened before you joined us.
 4. We can therefore not pay for a lawyer to take this matter further.
 5. Ordinarily we would engage with the third party on your behalf in order to seek an amicable solution, but due to the fact that your matter is approaching prescription in May 2017, we believe it is best you see a private lawyer as soon as possible to avoid losing your right to claim damages.

Should you have further queries regarding this matter or wish to clarify anything, kindly do not hesitate to contact Ms Stephanie Nagoor on 031 -*** or our Customer Care Centre on ***where our staff will gladly assist you.

Thanks and regards,

Mboneni Rathiyaya, GM – Legal and Customer Care
