Ongoing Unresolved Claim, Contradictory Communication, and Escalating Losses – Scorpion Legal Protection

I am extremely disappointed with the manner in which Scorpion Legal Protection has handled my claim (Claim ***), which I reported in February 2025.

The matter relates to a dispute with an engineering company following faulty engine repairs on my bakkie. Despite submitting all required documentation timeously, the handling of my claim has been characterised by prolonged delays, contradictory explanations, poor communication, and a lack of transparency.

In June 2025, I was informed that the matter had been referred to attorneys, and I was contacted by the appointed attorneys regarding claim amounts and next steps. However, months later, in November 2025, I was advised for the first time that “cover had not yet been confirmed.” This directly contradicts earlier actions and communications and has never been clearly or satisfactorily explained, despite repeated written requests for clarity.

Furthermore, Scorpion has now limited my claim to R6,955.00, allegedly based on an attorney’s assessment. No written assessment has been provided to me, no explanation has been given as to how this amount was calculated, and supporting receipts reflecting higher losses were seemingly disregarded. An email from Scorpion even referred to an “attached explanation” that was never provided.

What is most concerning is the ongoing prejudice caused by these delays. The vehicle that is the subject of this dispute has now been standing at the mechanic for over a year while Scorpion’s cover position and intervention remain unresolved. In December, during this period of delay, the vehicle was broken into and the ignition damaged in an attempted theft, resulting in additional costs and losses over and above the original dispute.

Instead of addressing the substance of my concerns, Scorpion has responded dismissively, stating that I “do not understand their procedures,” without answering the specific questions raised. I have now formally escalated the matter and am preparing a complaint to the relevant Ombudsman.

I am posting this to warn other consumers and to seek meaningful intervention, accountability, and resolution from Scorpion Legal Protection. As a paying client, I expected legal protection — not prolonged silence, shifting explanations, and escalating financial harm.

Following my original post, I received a call this morning from a Scorpion Legal Protection representative (Carol), after Scorpion indicated on HelloPeter that they had “responded privately”.
During the call, I was informed that my claim was allegedly “finalised” and limited to approximately R6,955. However, the discussion raised further serious concerns:
The caller initially stated that the claim was finalised based on a report from the appointed attorneys.
When questioned, she later admitted she was not aware of what documents were submitted to the attorneys, despite the attorneys previously requesting full receipts and supporting documentation from me.
She then reverted to saying she had received a report from the attorneys limiting the claim, which directly contradicted her earlier statements.
I was asked to verbally disclose amounts reflected on my receipts, despite Scorpion having appointed attorneys and having access to the documentation.
When I requested that Scorpion consult directly with their appointed attorneys to clarify the assessment, the caller indicated she would “ask management to call me” and ended the discussion without resolution.
To date, I have still not received:
  • A written attorney assessment
  • A policy-based explanation for the claim limitation
  • Written confirmation of cover
  • Or a response addressing the detailed questions I raised in writing
This call has unfortunately reinforced my concern that the matter is being handled inconsistently and without proper coordination between Scorpion and their appointed attorneys. I remain open to a fair and transparent resolution, but this must be properly documented and procedurally sound.

Follow-up: Silence after escalation

Following my initial Hello Peter complaint, Scorpion Legal Protection contacted me privately. However, instead of addressing the substantive issues raised, their response resulted in further confusion and ultimately the withdrawal of their appointed attorneys, without any written explanation to me as the client.

Since my last formal e-mail, in which I requested clarity on the handling of my claim, the unexplained limitation of the claim amount, and the procedural failures that led to prolonged delays, there has been complete silence from Scorpion.

This matter has been ongoing for over a year. During this period:
  • My vehicle has remained at a mechanic due to the unresolved dispute;
  • The vehicle was broken into during December, causing additional damage and cost;
  • Despite this escalation and the obvious urgency, Scorpion has continued with a “business as usual” approach.

Most concerning is that critical, fact-based questions raised by me were never answered. Instead, the matter appears to have been mishandled to the point that the appointed attorneys withdrew, leaving me without assistance while monthly premiums continue to be deducted. This follow-up is to place on record that Scorpion has failed to respond further, failed to take accountability, and failed to demonstrate any urgency or concern for the real consequences suffered by their client.
I am now pursuing parallel escalation through the Ombudsman.
