Scoot Doctor Cape Town - Poor Service - Poor After Service Support - Poor Management
My SYM GTS 300i Evo was in at Scoot Doctor for an almost complete engine rebuild and a full major 12000km service in October 2018, now December 2018 (2 month ago). Invoice total R13702.25, Just so we are clear on how big the job was on a R30000 s******. The clock is just over 13000km now, less than 1500km after the overhaul and service was done.
Whilst cleaning the bike and checking oil levels and tyre pressure before the holiday rides start, I realized that the engine and engine compartment is filthy dirty with oil and dirt all over, not the reflection of an engine that was reconditioned less that 1500 km ago. So I cleaned it all, a 2 hour project.
Then I opened the air-filter cover to check the condition and maybe blow it with air. Upon inspection I was shocked again and I realized immediately that this is definitely not a new filter. Now the question arise, how do these guys work and how can they call themselves Scoot Doctor???
I've been in the automotive trade since 1999, even worked for Shell Auto Serve back in the day and this is definitely not how you hand a vehicle back to the owner. Two crosses, Dirty and service parts not installed, not on at all!
I phoned Scoot Doctor to inform them of my finding and the workshop manager Gary and the owner Pete asked me to bring the filter in for inspection, which I did. I send a driver in with the invoice of R13702.25 and the filter. I could not go myself, because I'm at work as well more than 20km from where they are.
Pete inspected the filter and started a conversation with my son and the driver, why, I have no idea, because they don't now anything, I'm the client and my s****** is the s****** not treated well. So I phoned Pete again.
Pete refused to exchange the filter and claims he is sure it was replaced, based on the paper trail where the filter was signed out by the mechanic, although he can't guarantee that the filter was indeed placed in the bike and he also said it is possible that neglect or theft is possible.
Even after making such a statement and after numerous phone calls and very rude behavior on Pete's side ending up in him dropping the phone in my ear, I'm still left with an old clogged dirty filter and the only suggestion Pete had was that I purchase a new one, which they had in stock at R570.
Needless to say, I refused to support his business and I will never take any of my 2 s******s back to them for a service. I see his behavior towards me, the way he treat a client and his after service support as very unprofessional.
So that the sort story ... So if you take your s****** there for service and or repairs, please double check if they actually did what you are charged for. I feel sorry for you guys and girls who are not mechanically inclined, because it seems that they are are getting away with it, seeing that Pete himself admitted to being mechanically misfit.
Those of you who are happy with their service, lucky you ... and I hope it stays that way. Maybe they had an off day with mine, would've been nice if they just agreed to fix the problem without the quibble.
Other than that, my s****** engine sounds great and it goes well, so there I'll have to say, job well done, so far so good. Bit of a concern that an engine rebuild only carries a 3 month guarantee. So I guess I have to get out of here and start riding before my 3 month guarantee is over.
Cheers guys and girls, happy riding and be safe.
Blessings Essie
