The Scoin Shop Dream Team at Sandton City

The current team at the Scoin Shop Sandton City are top notch. Headed up by Themba with 15 years of experience, I was lucky to have him educate me as he moves between stores. I promised him a glowing review to their Head Office at the Marc in Sandton but this a better platform to say thank you.

He had to deal with a tired, fairly well educated Anne who plonked herself down and asked for paper to make notes. 🤣 Anyone who can survive an hour of me asking questions and taking multiple pictures in store deserves 10 gold stars. If I was a mystery shopper I'd be any new sales consultant's worst nightmare 🤣

Upon my 2nd visit where I actually bought something, both Mike and Tammy already knew who I was...I left that much of an impression 🤣 They were both super cool, friendly, helpful and well educated too. Upon my 3rd visit I got to meet Talitha, she knew who I was too! 🤣

Yes, buying can take time as the coins need to be sourced before you can collect them or do safe custody, but considering you've paid the spot price on the day it doesn't really matter to me personally. I've been busy in Dbn so I ignored a couple of their calls. Themba went the extra mile and contacted me personally, so I basically told him I'll see you guys as soon as I can.

To address the 2 main concerns that people leave bad reviews about:

No, the Scoin Shop will not buy the money in your wallet. That is legal tender so R5 is worth R5 whether it's the old bank note or a shiny commemorative Nelson Mandela coin from whichever year. The only place you might get more than R5 is overseas. I tripled my money in Israel when an old shop owner traded me NIS 20 for my R20 bank note with dear Nelson Mandela's face on it.

Secondly, proof coins are a lot more expensive for the same oz of gold or silver as they are collectors items. The Scoin Shop is not a collector, they will buy back the coins at the current spot gold price. So for a R15k proof coin, they will give me R7.5k back on the same day as that is the bullion, true SA gold price which updates twice daily.

South Africans are limited ito taking bullion out of the country but can take proof coins as we've already paid the premium. We can also buy from the overseas mints e.g. the UK, Canada etc.

If I like something pretty and shiny then I'll pay the price on asking (POA) if it's worth it to me, the same way I'd buy original art works. How and where I choose to sell it down the line is up to me, it's not the Scoin shop's responsibility.

Now that I've given my 2 cents worth, pun intended, I hope it will help anyone else thinking of buying at any of their 10 stores nationwide.

Sorry Pavilion and Gateway, I would have popped in if KZN wasn't ripping up and doing the construction they're doing at spaghetti junction and N2 northbound. 🙄🤣
