Scoin Shop

I want to advise those new and experienced investors about the false marketing that The Scoin Shop and SA Gold Exchange use. This roller-coaster ride started about 5 years back when I purchased a number of Gold Mandela Medallions from a Scoin Shop branch at the OR Tambo airport, they closed down that branch and moved their sales staff to Eastgate. I was told that the coin would always be resale-able as at worst, The Scoin Shop would buy it back. I was told by the agents at the Scoin Shop to hold the coin for a period of up to 5 years to make the maximum Return on Investment, however should I want to sell prior to the 5 years I would not make as much profit on the coins. A few months back I approached the Scoin shop as I needed to sell my coins as I wanted to reinvest with Scoin and purchase Kruger Rands. I was given a valuation on the coins I have and told them to go ahead with the buy back of my Mandela coins. I was then advised that due to the fact I have not had the coins for longer than 5 years and the market has died down they cannot buy back the coins from me. I find this atrocious! I now sit with coins that I will not be able to sell and will only in the end get the value of the gold and make no return on my investment in over 5 years whereas I could have got the same return over 1 year with a Money Market or Fixed deposit. I questioned the Regional Sales manager of Scoin shop as to how their retail prices are determined and was told it’s based on demand. If demand is the case, then why am I receiving almost cost, back on my coin of 5 years? Although this isn't *******, I feel as though I have been ****med through false marketing and false promises

Reviewer Update

this is the reply I got from Scoin Shop.....

Dear Mr Erlston,

The purpose of this communication is to give you feedback on your Trade Request for your Mandela Day 1/4oz Gold Medallion, Liliesleaf Memory+Legacy 3 Coin G/S Set, Mandela Nkosi Sikelele Twin Set and Titanic 100m Anniv £25 Gold 2012.

Kindly note coins and medallions fall into the Alternative Asset Class. The nature of this asset class requires that a long term view is taken. It is also subject to market conditions.

The outcome of your Trade Request has not been successful. The reason for this is that the value threshold has not yet been reached due to the age of the coins and medallions.

In order for you to derive more value, we recommend that keep your coins for now.

Thank you for your support. Should you require any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
