Embarrassing buy back offers from Scoin Shop even when gold price is high
I purchased some gold collector coin sets from the Scoin Shop at Pavilion Shopping Mall in Durban. My first set was purchased 2011 at 2.5 times the price of the actual gold content, and assured by salesmen that it will have high collectible value, and also a guaranteed buy back offer. My second set was purchased in 2014, at 3 times the price of the actual gold content, again with marketing and assurance of high rarity and collectible value.
With the gold price soaring in 2020 (triple that of 2011 prices and over double that of 2014 prices), on 20 August I inquired about what Scoin Shop can offer to buy back my coins. Their offer for my rare collectible coins was lower than the value of regular Krugerrands, and was even far below the inflation rate. Their offer implies that they recognise zero Nurismatic value for the collectible nature of their own product and I was advised to sell my coins privately on bidorbuy at my own wit and will.
They are quick to make a sale but even after years of holding the collectibles and with highly favourable record high gold prices, their buyback offers are pathetically low, as if they are trying to make a lucky deal for themselves with desperate sellers (all of their own clients wanting to sell are seen as desperate for some reason, and offered ridiculously low values).
You're on your own to sell your collectible coins at any kind of profit. Remember this when you are parting with your money purchasing from them.
