Saya Recoveries Not Clearing Names of Credit Bureau even after collecting debts
I owed money to MTN for a contract that I did not finishing paying up after I was retrenched at work. Saya Recoveries were tasked with Debt Collection on my end. Unfortunately, I was unemployed and could not commit any money towards paying the account.
3 years later, I got employed and contacted Saya Recoveries so that I can make arrangements to settle my debt. They had already added their fees like administration, interests and penalties on the amount.
I made an arrangement with the pay up and after 6 months, I had paid up R8600. We had a tussle about the settlement because they had added their own administration fees which weren't declared and in the end, a manager called and we cleared the issue.
I received a paid up letter and in my opinion, I had settled my account fully. 3 months later, I try to apply for a phone contract and I'm told that I still owe MTN. Now, I was not aware that I was handed over to the credit bureau or legal.
1. Saya Recoveries did not notify MTN that they had issued me a Paid Up Letter as they had collected the amount I owed. 2. MTN was still under the impression that I owed them. 3. My credit record has been duly affected by this.
Basically, Saya Recoveries have not cleared my name but yet they have collected money from me for MTN. My name is somehow blacklisted or in a legal status. I cannot get a cellphone contract due to this and Saya Recoveries still hadn't cleared my name since I settled the debt in February 2024.
I am disappointed, and heartbroken that after 5 months, my credit still looks terrible because a debt collector did not do their job fully and have ruined my credit profile. MTN should reconsider their approach at collecting debts because collectors like Saya Recoveries are not good at it if clients end up in ad situations like this.
I urge companies to stay away form Saya Recoveries.
Saya Recoveries do not have customer's listed so we can unfortunately not have your name removed from the credit bureau. We acted as mandated by MTN and collected the outstanding monies as owed and issued you with the paid-up letter, so you may have official documentation showing that the account has been paid through us. Further to this the monies have been paid over to MTN and should reflect accordingly on your statements. You may submit the paid-up document to the bureau to have the listing removed. I have also emailed you the letter again.
Kind Regards!

When I paid up the account, I only received a paid up letter from Saya Recoveries. I did not receive any letter from MTN. Today, you've sent me the letter from MTN, dated 27th February 2024. 4 months later, you decided to send the actual letter from MTN. Why was this letter not emailed to me together with the paid up letter from you guys? MTN listed me and when I paid you guys, it was partially your responsibility as well to assist in having me removed from listings.
At the moment, I do not even know how to contact or send the letters to the credit bureau. In your business with MTN, you should amend proceedings and include contacting the credit bureau on behalf of people you collector money from. You should have MTN make an obligation or commitment to that once you pay up the funds to them.
