I have been shopping with Save Hyper now for years and at first (there is always specials) the prices were still reasonable. I noticed since last year (I shop on a weekly basis) that there prices go up EVERY WEEK, not all the prices but most and not just by R1 or R2 per item but from R3 upwards some as much as R10. Even when the petrol price remained stable for a 3 or 4 months, the prices still goes up EVERY WEEK on most items, especially the ones needed the most, the veggies except for potatoes, onions really are expensive and the meat prices is so high only the rich can afford it and I shopped there because I am a Sassa pensioner and when I get a lift I have a sign for old and disabled parking. The staff is outstanding, their services is really good mostly. Sometimes you get one or two who is unhelpful but that is really not the issue here. I cannot shop at any other store except Shoprite Checkers and even their prices is higher than Save Hyper so tell me how are we as pensioners going to live I eat no meat because I cannot afford it and mostly bread (dry because the margarine prices too I cannot afford). Often I found slimy (small packets of frozen veggies) which is all I can afford - one a week and I had to return several items over the course of months because it was rotten or soiled and you do NOT buy fresh vegetables from them, unless you pick them one by one yourself.
