Employment contract

I had app**** for the admin clerk position and they sent me a contract to sign and to return it with a police clearance certificate due to me not being able to send the certificate I sent the proof of payment instead and they declined my contract, they told me that they we're going to replace me at the end of the day. They gave me an option to apply for it here *** and I still haven't received it and I spent R550. I'm confused as to whether this contract was legit or not.

Good morning Ipeleng,

We are aware of various recruitment ****s, often using **** email addresses and information.
Do not respond to an email if:
It’s asking for money.  Our recruitment process does not require you to pay any money for checks or clearances, nor do we advise you to pay any third parties for police clearances. We will never ask you to deposit money into a mobile money account.
The email address is different to this format: ***. We will never mail you from a generic gmail address. The email address in your below email is not a valid Sasol email address.
It’s out of the blue:  You would only be offered a position once all the recruitment steps are complete.
We will never send a contract to you without:

  • Application for a position,

  • having at least one panel interview,

  • psychometric tests (depending on the position),

  • qualification verification,

  • reference checking,

  • medical and fitness assessments

  • and ******** clearance.

Please mail *** if you receive ********** offers of employment and report it to your local police authorities.
