DON'T use Sasol North Reef Filling Station - you may end up with damage to you vehicle
I filled up at Sasol North Reef on the last Saturday morning of January 2021.
As I pulled away I came to a halt hearing metal on metal.
This SASOL garage has upside down U post at the end of there petrol pump islands which are invisible from a standard SUV’s height.
I had an appointment and returned to the garage later to witness that ALL OF THESE POSTS (both sides of the petrol pump islands) HAVE BEEN SCRATCHED AND DAMAGED REPEATEDLY, by other unsuspecting customers.
I obtained Sasol’s numbers to contact as well as the garages management/owner to inform them of the invisibility of these posts.
The staff members providing the information was not surprised that another person had driven into the post and damage their left side passenger door.
The staff members (having had identified themselves as managers) were aware that this happens frequently and although SASOL operations and Management/owners are aware of this hazard has done nothing about it.
I could only reach a person on one of the numbers provided. Although the man I reached telephonically on the day was polite, he indicated he would discuss with his director.
I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT TO FILL YOUR VEHICLE AT THIS PETROL SERVICE STATION, JUST GO 1KM DOWN THE ROAD (SASOL RILEY ROAD), THERE IS ANOTHER SASOL GARAGE THAT HAS CLEARLY VISIBLE POSTS THAT ARE ABOUT 1,5M FROM THE GROUND WHICH NO-ONE AS MISS REGARDLESS OF THE VEHICLE THEY DRIVE.
Being a common occurrence at this Service Station, it would most probably just be brushed off and I am left with the damage and having to repair my vehicle at my own cost. As there is no way that they are paying/assisting in paying to fix peoples vehicles due to this problem based in the sheer number of scratched and damage I saw
It is sad that even though the owners and managers and Sasol head office is aware of this problem at this station (which seems to be ONLY this station as no other SASOL station on the east rand have similar posts), they just don’t fix the problem to minimise future issues. Which confirms my suspicion that they don’t give a continental and just place the responsibility on the DRIVER TO SEE THE INVISIBLE FROM THERE VEHICLES.
A sad situation that even with all parties’ concern knowing of the issue, it’s just not changed and with always having friendly and good service in general at ALL other SASOL station I visit, it takes one bad apple to spoil the experience.
I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT NO-ONE MAKE USE OF THIS STATION UNTIL THEY TRY AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. I FOR ONE WILL NOT MAKE USE OF THIS STATION AGAIN, EVER AND WILL ENCOURAGE EVERYONE I KNOW TO DO THE SAME.
