Useless SARS IT infrastructure

I have been trying to get a new tax number issued for the last 6 weeks. They say that the system for rolling out new tax numbers is faulty. It has been so since February 2019. How long can it take to sort out an IT problem at SARS? When I called the call center, they said that they have no information on the problem. In fact, they aren't even aware of a problem. SARS, get your act together. How difficult can it be to sort out a minor glitch?
