UNHAPPY CUSTOMER

SARS REFUSES TO RESOLVE A TAX DEBT THAT WAS PAID IN 2018

I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with the way my matter has been handled by SARS.

In 2018, after resigning from my employment, I received a provident fund payout through Alexander Forbes. The applicable tax was deducted and paid directly to SARS. I have a paid-up letter and proof confirming that the payment was made.

Several years later, SARS informed me that I still owed the same amount. Since then, I have visited the SARS offices on Rissik Street more than five times trying to resolve the issue. Each time I submitted the proof of payment and explained that the tax had already been deducted and paid.

I was advised to obtain the payment reference used by Alexander Forbes. I did so and provided the supporting documentation to SARS. Despite this, I was repeatedly told that the payment could not be traced or was not reflecting on their system.

To make matters worse, SARS has withheld my tax refunds over the years and app**** them towards this disputed debt. However, the balance has not reduced accordingly and the debt continues to reflect on my account.

On 25 March 2026, an amount of R6,556 was deducted from my bank account through collection processes involving Blake Collection Attorneys, despite my ongoing efforts to prove that the original tax liability was already settled.

I am not asking for special treatment. I am simply asking SARS to investigate the payment made in 2018, trace the funds that were paid on my behalf, explain why the debt remains on my account, and provide a fair resolution.

After years of trying to resolve this matter through normal channels, I feel ignored and left without answers.

Can someone from SARS please review this matter urgently and assist in bringing it to a proper conclusion?
