SARS Poor Service
We have been struggling for more than a year now to resolve my wife's Tax return for 2020. My wife was retrenched 31 May 2019. We never submitted the tax return at the time as my wife's salary was below the salary threshold at that time and to our knowledge not required to submit a return. A year later SARS requested us to submit the return. We tried to submit the return but there were issues on a Tax directive for the pension she received. To make a long story short the tax directive that SARS referred to was only relevant to the 2021 tax year but they kept on that we had to go to the pension fund administrator to fix the problem. We have now been back and forth for so many times being so frustrated to resolve this. Every time you speak to someone new at SARS we have to explain the whole story again. We've been on the phone this week for more than 5 hours because you wait in a long queue. We were busy with Lehlogonolo on the line waiting for more than hour on the queue, we explained it to her and she was starting to understand what we were saying. We waited for her to check a few things on there system and the phone call was cut of, she had my wife's details open in front of her but she did not make an effort to call us back, I phoned the complaints department and we have now been 1 hour on the line. We were number 11 in the queue and after 60 minutes they only helped 8 people, most probably only 1 person from SARS answering this service. SARS wanting all tax payers to submit and auto assess their returns between 1 July 2022 and 24 October 2022, this is not going to happen Mr. SARS with such a poor service.
