So here is SARS for you.

A month ago, I registered for e-filing. The system required me to head to the nearest SARS office and submit various documents in person. I dutifully comp****, took a day off work and headed off to SARS Paarl (this was an unexpected breeze - good job SARS Paarl)! After my documents were submitted my registration was successful and I was ready to do my e-filing. The calculation revealed that SARS owed me money and thus an audit should commence (fair enough). I was requested to submit various documents online which I of course did immediately. A few weeks later I received a completion letter stating that my audit was completed and that no changes would be made. Hoorah - and so the wait for funds owed to be paid out began....

A week later I still had not received any funds. I was not too concerned but was looking for some closure. After finally getting hold of a SARS agent, I am told the audit is not actually completed and I should go into my nearest SARS office again with "all my documents." When questioning this revelation, including why I should submit documents in person when the print button on a computer would do the trick, as well as why I received a completion letter - I was met with a profound silence. Nobody seemed sure of what was happening thus I should, "just go into the office". When I asked what the turn around time for my funds will be after visting SARS for tea, I was told there is no turn around time.

So, as it stands, my audit is complete and SARS owes me money, however they have clearly run out of s**** paper and are thus holding my funds ransom until I visit and take them second copies of everything they already have. This will of course require another day's leave and more petrol money, only to be told that I may or may not receive my funds.

A very special kind of stupid :)
