No response

On the15th August 2024, I made a payment arrangement at the Nelspruit SARS branch with Mary-Kate, in terms of which I agreed to pay R500 per month. I have honoured this arrangement and continue to make the agreed monthly payments to date.

It has therefore come as a surprise to note that interest continues to be charged monthly, despite the payment arrangement being in place.

Furthermore, I submitted an affidavit to Mary-Kate requesting the deregistration/cancellation of the VAT registration, as I was not aware of the VAT registration and do not have any knowledge thereof. I have made several attempts to contact her on *** to confirm whether all the required documents were submitted to the Collections and VAT Deregistration departments, however, I have been unsuccessful. I then sent an email to SARS on the 04th.01.2026 and I haven't got any respond from SARS up to date

I am writing to formally query and dispute the interest charged on my outstanding tax balance, as it does not align with the payment arrangement agreed upon with SARS.In 2021, an amount of R42 000 was deposited into my bank account. At the time, I was under the impression that I had been auto-assessed, as I did not receive any communication indicating otherwise. I only became aware of an issue once I received a Letter of Demand, after which I immediately visited the SARS Nelspruit branch to seek clarity and resolve the matter.Upon my visit to the branch, I was informed that I owed R47 000, which included approximately R5 000 in interest accumulated over a period of three years (2021–2024). Although this came as a surprise, I cooperated fully and entered into a payment arrangement, agreeing to pay R500 per month, which I started paying in October 2024 and have continued to honour to date.It has now come to my attention that my outstanding balance has increased to R57 013, meaning that approximately R10 000 in interest has been added within less than one year, despite the fact that I am actively paying according to the agreed arrangement. This raises serious concern and confusion on my part. My understanding was that entering into and complying with a payment arrangement was meant to manage or limit further penalties and interest. I therefore request clarity on the following:
  1. What was the purpose of the payment arrangement if interest continues to accrue at such a significant rate?
  2. Why has interest of approximately R10 000 accumulated within a year, compared to R5 000 over the previous three years?
  3. Whether the interest charged can be reviewed, reduced, or remitted, considering my compliance and good faith efforts to settle the debt.
  4. Whether the payment arrangement was correctly app**** to my account.
I have acted responsibly by engaging SARS as soon as I became aware of the issue and by consistently making payments as agreed. I kindly request a full statement of account, a detailed breakdown of the interest charged, and a review of my account to ensure fairness and accuracy.I trust that this matter can be resolved amicably and look forward to your urgent assistance.
