The South African Revenue Service is *********** and employs people that do not understand the tax system and their online consultants are so rude that they cut off calls when they cannot assist. I was number 981 on a call to the SARS call Centre and after waiting for an hour before my call was answered the consultant put the phone down in my ear after I mentioned what my query was. SARS has owed me the tax rebate for my retirement fund contribution for the tax year 2021 and have been ducking and diving to pay the money into my account. I have submitted numerous supporting documents, and they revert back to me after two or three months to ask for additional documents, which they could have stipulated in the first instance. When I try to upload the documents on their website the website does not work and cannot upload the documents prepared exactly to the specifications given by them. I think they do this on purpose so that people just give up and stop submitting supporting documents so that SARS do not have to pay what they owe law abiding tax paying citizens. Sadly, this is just one example of many *********** South African government institutions.
