Getting the runaround from SARS while interest is adding up!!
Last year I submitted my tax return through e-filling in time for the October 2018 deadline. I was then told I owe an excess of R7 000. Early November 2018 I gave birth, and could not drive, therefore I tried raising a dispute through the call centre. I called multiple times and each time received a different answer for the R7000+ amount due. In January, once I was clear for driving, I went to the Sars branch in Centurion. After much debate I was told that the amount was due to my reimbursed travel expenses. As I could not understand why my tax so high for a reimbur*****t (i.e. I spend R100 for parking, my company reimburses me the exact amount back). I was then told to raise a Notice of Objection (NOO), and I was told what information to submit. I then returned with all the information required and submitted at the branch. Two month later I get a letter saying that the NOO was rejected because of insufficient information and that I must submit the exact same information again. At this point I feel like I am getting the run around. At the same time all the SARS personnel are quick to be dismissive and to tell me to just pay, also that the amount is picking up interest and penalties during this process. And throughout this process no one can explain why the tax is so high even when I look at their travel guideline.
