GEPF and SARS struggling to resolve and issue for more than 2 months
I was doing my Mom-in-law's SARS efiling, when I picked up that one of the IRP5's submitted by the GEPF was not completed, as they did not include the period. Due to this I could not submit her tax return in July. I phoned the GEPF in the middle of July to request them fix it, then they said I should phone SARS, which I then did, SARS said that the company should resubmit the IRP5 on easy file. When I phoned the GEPF again they said that they are aware of the issue with some of the tax returns and that SARS is busy fixing it and that I should phone back the first week of August as it should be rectified. When I phoned I got the same story, SARS is still busy fixing the error and that they don't know when it will be corrected. I phoned again today 28 September and yet again after speaking to a highly irritated consultant she said that SARS is working on it and they don't know when it will be corrected. How can one IRP5 be correctly submitted and yet the other one not??? I blame both GEPF and SARS as this is unacceptable that a problem can take this long to be resolved and it is impacting pensioners submitting there Tax returns. If this is an SARS issue they should have had it fixed by now as the deadline for submissions is a month away, this problem cannot persist.
