My husband and I recently decided that we wanted to be part of change in this country and one of the things we had to do was ensure that or tax was up to date. My husband had been retrenched in 2000 and had started his own business which was extremely stressful and led to him becoming a full blown alcoholic. In 2011 our house was repossed and in 2012 his company liquidated. As he was in rehab at the time and following the sheriff of Randburg throwing stuff all over the road it was difficult to find the right documents. We went to SARS Randburg twice. Each time they seemed to do the same thing. Stuff filed online was refiled yet still showed as outstanding etc. Eventually we go to the point where SARS provided us with the IRP5 for 2008 and 2009. We then went in for a third time to ask for remission on penalties. Four days later I get told that 2008 and 2009 have a nil return so I did them again. They were by far not the worst of the period but in his wisdom Mr Moyane has only granted remission on those two years - based on an incorrect return. They owe my husband and have for 2 years but nothing can be done until we object etc. Moving SA forward!
