Custom charges

I am horrified that SARS Custom can charge so much for a gift which was bought overseas. My total bill come to 4500 and sars charged me 2995. The gentleman refused to be of assistance and advise that we must resend the parcel back for reassessment but it is not going to help, thats the cost and we must pay it. He further advised that clothing (costumes) rate is more expensive and will base the amount on the most expensive item in the package. We further advised him that there is not just clothing (costumes) but goggles and a kick board and surely they have their own rate?! When you do things the right way you get **********. He further told us that the limit for a gift is 1500 (you don't pay any customs) but refused to deducted that off the bill. Furthermore the calculations were done on the incorrect amount and the gentleman refused to hear anything. Between my mom and I 60 plus phone calls and no one answered. My mom went in and was told that they are busy and don't have time to answer their phones. Lovely service. Think this should be taken to the newspapers and TV to advise people that if you have goods shipped over to be very careful cause you will be ******.
