Complain and your tax owed will be doubled.

On 31 July I get an SMS from SARS stating that they have assessed my tax. They calculate it at R1947.88. I dispute the case by submitting a correction to the return. This correction was however incorrect as I accidently overcalculated the expenses that were not recorded by the scheme. I then send them my corrected list of medical expenses. Now instead I owe SARS R4091.59. How is this possible?

Firstly, how can SARS determine how much I owe them based on an incorrect assessment on their part and the fact that my Medical Aid didn't pay much the first 3 months of my membership? It is a nightmare dealing with them. I tried phoning them and I was number 865 in the queue. It just shows how many people are unsatisfied with SARS service.

I wish that SARS can go through my bank statements and see how much I actually spent on medical expenses. I calculated it at R17***, whereas my medical certificate only shows R8***. Also my medical aid doesn't pay for the correct diagnosis, because it is not regarded as a chronic disease, yet it is a disease that I acquired at birth.

Unfortunately the medical slips that I get from the pharmacy create a problem, because they get thrown away. SARS should accept a list of medical expenses from the pharmacy.

My bank statements do not lie. I also spend money on my wife's medicine and my children's medicine.

I need urgently someone that can correct this glaring error that was made by SARS and go after the real tax evaders.
