Audit excuses

On 27 October I submitted my return and I was told I would receive an SMS. The SMS only came after 4 days which said my refund is due on the 30th Of November which unusual to me. I then called SARS to find out why this year takes so long to get my refund and I was told that I picked for audit which will take 21 working days. I called on the 22nd working day I was then told a different story, this time they told me it will take 60 working days. I asked what happened to 21 days and I was told that 21 working days was for auditing my return and the 60 working days is auditing my refund which comes to a total of 81 working days which is close to 5 months.

If we don't submit in time we are threatened by sars and they penalise us but if it's them nothing happens and no one is held accountable.

I guess SARS doesn't have money so they make excuses by audit. How does it take 60 working to audit 1 person?
