Disappointing experience

This was the most disappointing experience Ive ever had with a contractor. We approached Sariga to install a bookshelf for our home. We had worked with them before on a smaller project and had a good experience. We felt confident working with them again. We specifically wanted a bookshelf unit that would hold all our books. We took our guidance from Sariga as to how to best build one. They installed the shelf and it was beautiful. HOWEVER, 5 months after installation, the shelf began to cave in. January 2018: The shelf cracks and sags In January of this year (pics attached) the pins began cracking through the board and started to sag. We had to remove all the books to ensure it didn't completely collapse. We contacted Sariga and they immediately sent someone to check on it. The NEW installation manager said that they initial structure was not built with the correct support. They reinstalled it and it took longer than agreed upon. They also damaged the wallpaper in the process. September 2018: The shelf falls off completely and onto my husband. Last month, my husband was working at the desk and the entire unit fell forward, onto him and it was horrible. He contacted Sariga who sent 2 ladies to assist him at home. At this point, it was clear that the structure was not built for purpose and we wanted it removed and to get our money back. Sariga refused to refund us and insisted they are given the opportunity to reinstall the unit - AGAIN. At this point, for the safety of our family, we refused to allow them that opportunity again. We did not feel comfortable being a trial case for them to learn how to install a shelf either We went down the lawyer route to have the unit removed and, Sariga was 100% correct in saying that no kitchen place with refund a client. Why? Because lawyers are very expensive and Sariga seems to have more experience and money for this than us. We did go through the process of having 4 independent contractors assess the installation and the integrity of our wall (because Sariga raised that as a concern) and they all came back saying that the installation was very poorly done and our wall was perfectly fine! We made the decision to have someone remove it. Its not a safe structure. We lost a lot of money but, at least I know my family is not gonna be hurt because of poor workmanship.

My general advice on this matter is to please do more research on your service provider etc. Rather spend more time getting references for the job you actually need to have done.
