Worst Insurance in SA

If I could give Santam Insurance zero stars, I would. In my personal experience, dealing with Santam has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing customer-service encounters I’ve ever had. Every interaction felt like an uphill battle, and at no point did I feel supported or valued as a customer.

The communication was, in my opinion, absolutely terrible. I constantly felt like I was being left in the dark — long delays, unclear answers, and the sense that nobody was truly taking ownership of anything. Instead of helping, the process felt like it drained my time, energy, and patience.

What frustrated me most was the complete lack of urgency. When you’re dealing with insurance, you expect clarity, efficiency, and a bit of compassion. Instead, I felt like I was getting the exact opposite. The whole experience came across as disorganized and indifferent, as if my concerns were an afterthought.

Honestly, I regret choosing Santam. Based on how I was treated, I would strongly encourage anyone considering them to rethink their choice. There are plenty of insurers out there — in my opinion, almost any of them would offer a more respectful and reliable experience than what I went through. And lastly they asked me to get a assessor to do a damage report and funny enough when the assessor got a replacement quotation that was less then the access they were fine with it but due to there poor communication and process of the claim which took about 6 months the price of the replacement change and then all of a sudden the send out their own assessor that majestically concluded that the claim is null and void, this insurance is the worst ever I would not even recommend them to the Devil himself or my worst enemy.

Reviewer Update
Dealing with Santam and dealing with the ANC have one thing in common: both promise peace of mind, but somehow leave you refreshing your email—or shaking your head at the pothole in front of your house. With Santam, it’s “your claim is under review,” and with the ANC, it’s “your service request is under consideration.” Either way, patience is required, fine print lurks around every corner, and just when you think it’s done, there’s another form, another delay… or a premium hike. At least with Santam, the roads are still technically your responsibility!
