Very Disappointed with Santam and their brokers

We are pensioners who have been insured through brokers Indwe Risk Management Services for over 25 years (Before they changed their name they were known as Prestasi. Indwe are are partnered by Brolink but the actual insurance company is Santam. Our insurance covers house contents, 2 vehicles, caravan and trailer with monthly premiums of over R2200 per month. As pensioners until last year we never had any excess on any of our claims. We then went through a period when we did have some claims however the major claim was just after my wife purchased a new vehicle and while she was stopped behind someone turning right a vehicle smashed into the back of her vehicle causing damage to her vehicle of nearly R50,000. Both parties reported to the police station and my wife took a photograph of the other vehicle showing the driver and his number plate. The driver of the other vehicle was not ensured which resulted in Santam having to pay for the repairs. Shortly after this we received a letter from Indwe stating that because of the number of claims but mainly because of the approx R50,000 claim above my wife would have a R3000 excess on her vehicle and I would have a R1500 excess on my vehicle. This although I had not had any claims on insurance for over 3 years. Last week my vehicle was broken into at home which has resulted in me claiming just over R6000.

I have been informed that the R1500 excess will apply and that my premiums will increase as my no claim bonus falls away.

What this really does is beg the question is short term insurance really worth it. One remains loyal to a company for over 25 years, has a bad patch and makes a few claims, the major one being caused by a driver who does not have insurance and we the loyal customers suffer with both an excess and increased premiums. Makes one think is short term insurance really worth it.
