The Dark Side of Santam Short Term Insurance Company
The Dark Side of Santam Short Term Insurance Company
On the 23rd of February 2023 my daughters motor vehicle was hit from behind - on High Level Road, Seapoint - by a motorist who obviously had no idea of the traffic congestion or the stationary traffic ahead. Fortunately the vehicle was insured via my Insurance policy with Santam. The accident resulted in my daughter’s motor vehicle being s****ped, as the cost of repairs were more than Santam’s defined vehicle value vs. repair cost. In respect of the accident reporting and Santam’s assistance – I can only say that Santam are one of a kind in responding to a crisis, calming everything down and getting everybody home safe and sound. The next part of Santam’s modus operandi is to my mind *********, against all norms of governmental operation and clearly a form of pressure. We received an Agreement of Loss Claim from Santam – which we had to sign – agreeing to the payout offered by Santam for the s****ped motor vehicle. On receipt of the signed agreement of loss, Santam phoned to advise that they required a “GREEN” Natis Motor Vehicle registration certificate for the vehicle – as the “BLUE” Natis registration certificate was no longer acceptable. The Registration Certificate that I had – had a “Blue”border. I took the Blue Border Certificate to my local Traffic Department and was told that the “BLUE” Border certificate is a legitimate, lawful and legal document, which has not been withdrawn or s****ped and is in full use by the traffic department. So I went back to Santam – told them the facts and advised that If they wanted a “GREEN” Natis Motor Vehicle registration certificate for the vehicle, they would have to pay for the new copy. If I don’t provide the “GREEN” Natis Motor Vehicle registration certificate for the vehicle, then Santam just does not progress the payout for the s****ped Motor Vehicle. The payment could already have been made by mid March if they accepted the “Blue”border Certificate. As my daughter has to have a car – I have now spent – 6 hours over a two day period through loadshedding – and R175 in cash, at my local traffic department to secure a “GREEN” Natis MVR. In my view Santam is messing with National Government Documentation, by refusing to accept such documents and secondly they are brow beating their clients into accepting the situation – by refusing to payout funds if the clients supply documents which are fully legal and lawful – but according to them not acceptable.
