Shameful Santam .Do not insure with this company unless you want trouble

2 July a man crashed my car. He fairly agreed to fix my car and cover all my costs as he admitted the accident was 100% his fault and he was insured for 3rd party insurance. It has been pulling teeth getting the money out of Santam. They tried to cheat the panel beater forcing him to reduce his cost. Finally, that was resolved (after filing a complaint through hello peter). and they agreed on an amount to settle the claim with the panel beater. Now the panel beater is saying he requires 5 days to fix my car. I live in Walkerville and work in Pretoria so there is no way I can travel the 80kms without a car. I am a self-employed consultant. I rely on my car to get me to my client to finish my project and without that I will lose out on my contract and my income. Santam now is refusing to pay for my car hire because they require proof that I use my car to generate income -I. e if I use my car to go and do sales. Hiring a vehicle to be able to service my client should not be my cost as that negatively prejudices me for something is not my fault. I have escalated to the claims consult, then the claim manager and lastly, I have written to the branch manager hoping for a solution – I have received nothing. This has been the worst experience of my life with a callous cheating company. I don’t know what to do now. I would like some advice as to how to approach the Ombudsman for vehicle insurance for resolution it his matter
