Santam using Black Friday weekend clearance sales as replacement value
I made a claim through my broker for a subwoofer that died from lightning damage. A Monitor Audio SW12. I was requested to provide a damage report and a replacement quotation. Santam then proceeded to get their own quotation from Sound Xperience which is located in Kempton Park. I do not even live in Gauteng. The quotation that they got was for R14990. The quotation that I received from the supplier that did the damage report was R27190. The fact that the quotation from Santam was so low was a big red flag to me. I then proceeded to contact Sound Xperience and was informed that the price of R14990 is only a clearance sale that was supposed to last during the Black Friday weekend and that only 1 is still in stock. How is it acceptable to Santam to pay out a replacement value of an item that is based on a Black Friday deal with 1 item in stock in Gauteng whilst I live in the Western Cape? After I receive my money, how must I then replace the item when I am R12200 short and also to purchase from a shop in another province that is not located in my province.
It seems that Santam is either trying to wiggle out of paying the full replacement value or the staff that worked on this claim are ***********.
I raised the issue with my broker and was informed that they contacted Santam, but then I receive emails that my claim has been settled. It has definitely not been settled! I have no idea what is going on now.
I always thought that I was with one of the best insurers in South Africa, but so far my first claim ever has been very frustrating and appears to be shady. So far I am very disappointed. I had to waste my own time checking their nonsense quotation. I am now taking even more time to at least warn others of Santam's actions.
