Santam sharks do everything possible to not pay out valid claims!

Our hospitality and tourism business has been insured with Santam for several years now, and every year I ask myself why am I still with this terrible company? Their marketing stating "Real insurance good and proper" is absolute nonsense. We are paying thousands of Rands every month for fully comprehensive business insurance covering our vehicles, property, assets and our hospitality & tourism business in every respect. Over the years we have submitted several claims and if I have to think about it, approximately 80% of them have been rejected due to technicalities. Santam is very eager to take our money for the premiums, promising that we are covered and fully insured, but this is not the case. Each time we submit a claim for a valid reason, Santam deliberates for quite some time, pouring over all the correspondence & reports with all their experts to find any loophole or excuse not to pay us for honest claims we submit in our time of need. Recently we had an underground pipe burst on the nature reserve, resulting in dirty muddy water being drawn into the washing machines in our laundry with the result that R12.000 worth of white laundry was stained & damaged beyond repair. I queried why our claim was not successful, and I was informed that if the pipe had burst in the the laundry and flooded the laundry, and the linen was stained that way, then it would be covered. However, if the pipe burst outside the laundry and muddy water was pulled into the washing machines, it wouldn't be covered. What is the difference? A pipe burst beyond our control, we suffered damage to property due to this incident, and Santam found a fine print loophole which they exploited so that they didn't have to pay out the claim. Stay away from Santam, they don't have your best interests at heart.

Good day Stephan

We trust you are well.

We note that you have only provided your ID number and not the policy number.

We will kindly request the policy number or claim number in order for us to assist, as the hospitality and tourism policy is not registered using your ID number.

We look forward to your response.

Thank you and kind regards

Dear Kurt, I doubt it will do much good, as my brokers have already advised the super fine print which basically states that if the pipe bursts outside the laundry we are not covered, but if the pipe bursts inside the laundry we are covered. My response is, I have fully comprehensive insurance for my business and have suffered an accidental unforeseen loss, and now we need insurance good and proper.....but nothing is forthcoming and the claim is denied. ********** 2828, Policyholder - BLUE SKY TRUST (MOUNTAIN RESERVE) CRM: ********** Rgs, Stephan Busch

After some correspondence with Kurt, my insurance claim has been reopened and reviewed by Santam after my HelloPeter review. Santam have come to the conclusion that my claim was indeed legitimate and should be honored. I am now awaiting the assessor to make contact so that we can proceed with settlement. I am very pleased with the outcome, and happy that good & proper insurance does still exist.
