Santam refuses to cancel insurance policy of deceased
My father-in-law passed away at the end of last year, which came as a great shock for my wife. After cancelling all his other insurance policies without any hassles, and dealing with various other companies on closing or moving accounts, Santam is the one company that refuses to cancel a policy without endless executorship requirements, not to mention that we were able to provide sufficient evidence of death, and my wife being the sole heir to his estate. They seem content to keep on draining a deceased person's bank account, thereby capitalising on the limitations of the lockdown and the gross inefficiencies our public services.

The policy number is ***. I checked the online profile again, and the policy had been removed from there since we initiated the process.

I don't understand why this is such a struggle? I have not encountered this level of incompetence/unwillingness to help in an insurance company before.

04 May 2020, 10:29I'm sorry, but that is not acceptable and very hard to believe. Out of all the insurers we have dealt with, are you the only one that's acting lawfully? I don't don't believe that for one second. Unfortunately your debit orders are going to bounce, so feel free to keep the policy active and waste your own time and money. It seems the majority of the reviews of Santam on this site are quite spot on.
I'm not going to stress about this any longer. We'll then deal with this as soon as our executor receives their letter, and you'll hear from us then.
